  • Tunstall Subway Graffiti Project

    000_0002

Creative Arts North Staffs were asked to engage the community of Tunstall in creating a vibrant and welcoming subway near Tunstall Library in Stoke On Trent.

The subway had gained a reputation as an anti-social behaviour hotspot and following the success of our previous public art project (see Graffiti Bridge Mural) we were asked by Stoke On Trent City Council to work with the community to reinforce respect for the area and its traditions.

We featured many aspects of Tunstall and its surrounding area and worked with many schools, community groups and volunteers.

Since its completion the subway has received a huge amount of positive publicity, with many more residents using it as a thoroughfare and the mural has remained un-vandalised.

The project aimed to increase the aspirations of young people in the area and engage them in new creative expression during the summer holidays.

The workshops were a great success with many young people showing great dedication to the project, creating some excellent art work and making new friends along the way.
